In her words..
Austin and I both grew up going to a Christian summer camp in (the middle of nowhere) Alabama called Camp Winnataska. We both grew from going as campers, volunteering as leaders, and then as senior leaders. After your freshman year in college you have the opportunity to apply to work on the summer staff where you essentially live out at camp all summer doing a lot of manual labor, but also the chance to work with children and help them grow in their faith. Austin is a year older than me (Anna Katherine) and had worked on staff the summer before, but it was my first year picked to be on the summer staff. We had never really ran into one another because Austin and I went to different colleges, so we met the winter before camp at our staff training (February 2014) but nothing really came from it. Once we got out to camp that summer we were able to spend more time together. A couple weeks into the summer Austin asked me if I wanted to go to dinner with him on our off night, and agreed not thinking too much into it. At the end of the summer, after going on multiple dates on our off nights Austin asked me if I would consider doing a long-distance relationship and I said yes! (funny fact that Austin’s younger sister met her husband at the same camp and two people in our wedding party are married and met the same summer we did *I swear we are not in a cult*). We spent the next 3 years traveling back and forth to visit one another with the plan that after we graduated we would move to the same city. Life threw us a curve ball when Austin was accepted to the University of Louisville’s Dental School and I got my dream job in Nashville, TN. So we spent the next 4 years doing more long distance visiting one another and exploring our new cities together. A couple weeks before Austin’s dental school graduation we went on a hike and Austin proposed. He had secretly hike in with a bottle of champagne and glass in his backpack that we pulled out to celebrate. He had a whole day planned that ended in our friends surprising us after dinner to celebrate. Austin’s whole side of his moms family is from, and currently live in, New Orleans and we spent many weekends visiting over the 7 years. After graduation we had always talked about moving down to Louisiana and Austin got a job with a local practice in New Orleans. We have been here ever since and excited for our friends to visit for the wedding!
