Leanne and Garrett’s Capitol Park Museum Wedding

The wedding of Leanne and Garrett at The Capitol Park Museum

Congratulations to Leanne and Garrett! A wonderful and lovely story that began almost 4 years ago.

In her own words… “Our relationship has gone through many phases. The first year we were together we were both finishing up college, living out our last year of freedom together. Year two we were long distance, Garrett living in Lake Charles and me living in New Orleans. Year 3 we moved to Houston, moved into our first apartment together, and got our precious German Shepherd, Warden!! We got engaged shortly after moving to TX. We loved Houston but decided we wanted to be back home in Baton Rouge. In comes, move number 3.5. We are not living in Baton Rouge, building a house and counting down the days until we become husband and wife. Garrett and I are true soulmates, perfect counterparts. Where I struggle, he excels. What I lack, he makes up for. And vise Versa. We can’t wait to officially be together forever.

Even though we have known who each other was since elementary school, we “officially” met in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, February 2016. I had recently moved to New Orleans and my friend (and one of my bridesmaids) Leah Catherine was staying with me at my new apartment. We were walking around downtown on Saturday when we bumped into one of LC’s friends Willy (one of Garrett’s groomsmen). Garrett was with him. I gave Garrett a hug and we exchanged hellos, how are yous, long time no sees. We agreed to meet up at some point that weekend and went our separate ways. On Sunday night we met Willy, Garrett and Garrett’s family at the Hyatt to watch the super bowl. I was so nervous. Not only was I having somewhat of a first date with Garrett, but his parents, brother and sister n law were all there too. But Garrett made me feel right at home. We hung out with them for a couple of hours then Garrett, LC, Willy and I went back to the rooftop deck at my apartment to watch all the Mardi Gras festivities below. Garrett was such a gentleman. I had to tell him to kiss me. It was the best first kiss of my life, and at that moment I knew this redhead boy was either going to break my heart or I was going to marry him. He texted me the next day and the rest is history.

Garrett proposed on Saturday, November 17, 2018 (the day after my 25th birthday). We were already living together in Houston, TX and I had been patiently waiting for him to pop the question. I was so upset when he didn’t propose at my birthday dinner the night before. We went to the LSU game the following morning and our first stop was a family friend’s RV. Once we got in front of the RV, Garrett dropped down to one knee and asked me to marry him. I was shocked. When I looked to my left mine and Garrett’s entire families were there along with big “marry me” balloons. It was the most perfect and unexpected moment. We even got a special visit (and proposal) from mike the tiger!”
